God's
Nitroglycerin Pill
"Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And
behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
This past Thanksgiving Day, I realized why I had carried
around that little brown bottle of Nitroglycerin tablets for thirteen
years, never needing to take one. They were waiting to save my
life when the "big one" came by surprise. It was during the climax
of the disaster movie, "2012". How prophetic? During the
movie, just when the end of the world as we know it was taking place,
the theater was rocking with special effects, and the hero and heroine
found themselves "outside" the modern day Noah's Arks. How would they be
saved from the "Big One?" I did not find out!
I was busy dealing with my own personal confrontation
with death...a heart attack! Right there in the middle of the
theatrical "end of the world", I was facing my own end. Into my
pocket went my hand, then into my mouth went those little white pills I
carried for thirteen years, never needing a one. Then, to the
hospital for more nitroglycerin and five stints to snatch me from death
by MI (Myocardial Infarction).
The "Big One" came, but, I was ready because I had
carried with me that little bottle of pills I had no use for thirteen
years. The day I needed them to save my life, they were there
because I had carried them with me always, even to the day I was rocked
by my end of the world.
Jesus said, "But concerning that day and hour no one
knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only.
37 As were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38
For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the
ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all
away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man." Matthew 24:36-39 ESV
This experience made me realize the day I will need Jesus
Christ the most will be when I stand in judgment and face eternal death
or eternal life. And that will come by surprise! What will
determine the outcome will be, did I carry God's Nitroglycerin Pill,
Jesus Christ, those many years I did not seem to need Him?
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From
his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.
12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and
books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of
life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books,
according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who
were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they
were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then
Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second
death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written
in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation
20:11-14
